We strongly encourage all competitors to bring their families and to extend their trip beyond the duration of the competition. It’s a long flight from the east coast so if you can, why not take the opportunity to spend a little longer to explore the region or even sail other spots. The Midwest region of WA has some stunning landscapes and beaches, with plenty of family friendly and activities on offer.

Over the last few years Geraldton has become an increasingly vibrant and active city. The foreshore has been beautifully renovated so that families and kids can spend the afternoon/ evening playing in the water fountains, playgrounds. The city centre has a number of cute and hip coffee shops which serve some of the most delicious coffee and cakes we’ve ever tasted. If you’re after some culture, the city also has a fantastic library, a cinema, and, best of all a Maritime museum (by donation) which holds permanent and temporary exhibitions where you can learn all about the numerous shipwrecks, WA coastline, the continent’s history and origins.

If, by some incredible bad luck, the wind does not blow and you’re after more than strolls, brunches, and water fights on the foreshore the area offers plenty of excellent:  fishing, diving and snorkelling as well as cycling/ mountain biking trails, stand up paddle, surfing, a golf course, air charter tours, and tennis facilities.
